The 31 annual US Sandcastle Contest took place in Imperial Beach bringing an estimated 400,000 visitors to the beaches of Imperial Beach San Diego Ca. Winning Sand sculptures included a tribute to the military and also to the NASA Space Shuttle.PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 26, 2011 – The US Sandcastle committee, volunteers and community of Imperial Beach once again put on the best sand castle contest in the world with a 3 day group of festivities and events that included great street venders with arts and crafts, music, kid sandcastle building and of course the professional sand castle teams whcih took place on Sunday with the grand finale featuring over 25 great sand castle building teams competing for over $25,000 in prize money.
The US Sandcastle Competition has had to look hard to find sponsors to an event that brings huge publicity and hundreds of press and media people covering the event and showcasing it around the world. This year major sponsors included Foster Farms, Subway, Majic 92.5 radio in San Diego amongst a host of others,
This year the tides came up fast and the sand sculptures, which were finished building at 2:00PM, were gone with the tides by 4:30PM about 2 hours later.
The IB Posse won this years master builder class with a tribute to the military and troops. The Imperial Beach Sand Castle event is the most popular bach event on the west coast and a perfect one for kids and family to enjoy together.
