The Hangout & 92 ZEW Present Beach Blues & BBQ Every Sunday in August & September. Free Show.

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 01, 2011 – Join us at The Hangout for Beach Blues and BBQ with Blues Artist Lighnin' Malcolm. Music All day long starting at 12 noon. Live remote broadcast by 92 Zew and we will be serving up some amazing BBQ? Every Sunday in August and September! Check out our website for upcoming artists. This is an all ages free show!

Lightnin' Malcolm Bio
Music has always been part of Lightnin’ Malcolm’s heart and soul. From the moment he discovered an old raggedy guitar w/ a couple of strings and cassette of Muddy Waters his life and the music world would change forever. Malcolm’s journey began near the railroad tracks in rural Southeast Missouri. For several years Malcolm traveled the world spreading his love for the blues. It wasn’t until Malcolm settled in North Mississippi that he had a musical epiphany. He was drawn to the hill country blues first made famous by Fred McDowell and later R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough and Jessie Mae Hemphill.

Fresh off the road Lightnin’ Malcolm forges ahead with his new album “Renegade.” The album is due out on April 12 on Ruf Records. “Renegade” is high energy, hill country blues fused with modern elements of funk, reggae, soul, and rock. It features 13 new original songs all written and produced by Lightnin’ Malcolm.

Recorded in Clarksdale, MS “Renegade” is a guitar and drums duo recording, played live and raw in the North Mississippi hill country tradition. Joining Lightnin’ on drums is Cameron Kimbrough, grandson of blues legend Jr. Kimbrough. Cameron’s creative energy, versatile playing, combined with his natural family talent creates a perfect fit for Malcolm’s hypnotic grooves. Renegade also features a horn section on a few tracks comprised of Jim Spake, David McKnight, and Nahshon Benford. Lightnin’ befriended the trio while touring with the popular Americana act Lucero. Nadirah Shakoor (Jimmy Buffet) lends her beautiful voice on the reggae flavored “Precious Jewel.”

A Renegade by definition is an individual who rejects lawful or conventional behavior. The concept of Renegade closely reflects the turbulent lifestyle of a traveling musician. The authenticity of the music certainly permeates as a result on this album.

“ The songs on this album are definitely the result of years livin’ the renegade lifestyle. The renegade cuts against the grain, doin’ things his own way on his own terms. I’ve always tried to be a right doin’ person, to help people around me…I follow the laws of the universe, not the laws of man…I know right from wrong. Most times your on your own, movin’ from place to place with your guitar and your music..”at the same time interacting, entertaining, jamming, working, helping, teaching, learning, singing, dancing, sleeping, and living with all the people that come through your life. You are what you’ve done and the legacy you leave behind is the life you live everyday. Its all about the music and the only way to play it is to live it,” says Lightnin’ Malcolm.

The music unites musicians and audience as they interact in a hypnotic dance with everybody rejoicing to the power and joy of the music we call the Blues!

The Hangout is back and better than ever. We offer a great
menu of food and drinks. This is the place to let loose, laugh with family and friends, and above all, let the good times roll. Make memories every time you visit. www.thehangoutal.com

“How Do I Find My Soul’s Purpose” on August 2 “Why Shamanism Now?” with Christina Pratt

On "Why Shamanism Now?”, host Christina Pratt talks about what we can do to bring ourselves in touch with our passion, and in turn, with our soul’s purpose – which, from a shamanic perspective, is the cornerstone of our personal well being.
PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 26, 2011 – Streaming live on the Co-Creator Radio Network (www.co-creatornetwork.com) on Tuesday, August 2, at 11 a.m. Pacific time/2 p.m. Eastern time, on her show "Why Shamanism Now?: A Practical Path to Authenticity,” shaman and founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing Christina Pratt tells explains that one’s soul’s purpose is the cornerstone of well-being, from a shamanic perspective and answers the question: how do we find it?  Because, according to Pratt, without it we are lost.  With it one’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health come together as an integrated whole.  The gifts that one gives to the world as an expression of one’s soul’s purpose have never been seen before …and will never be seen again if one does not bring them. Pratt tells listeners that this life is the one moment to live that unique genius.  But how do know you are living your soul’s purpose?  What are the practical, daily things anyone could do to find and live their soul’s purpose?

In this episode of “Why Shamanism Now?” titled “How Do I Find My Soul’s Purpose”, Pratt answers those questions by exploring the things we can do to bring ourselves in touch with our passion, because our passion—freed from addiction and obsession—is the mainline connection to our soul’s purpose.  According to Pratt, our purpose does not live in the ethereal realms of spirit, visions, and dreams.  It lives in our body, deep within the root of being where we carry our piece of the original spark of life. To touch that original spark each day, we must release the lies we tell ourselves each day. To touch that spark we must accept the truth: the truth that we are One-with-all-things, innately worthy, and destined through our unique soul’s purpose to bring greatness to the world.

Christina Pratt is an authentic, non-traditional contemporary shaman. In practice since 1990, she specializes in mending the soul and transforming the parts of life that feel impossible.  A teacher of exceptional clarity, humor, and inspiration, Pratt brings the power of shamanism into the practical grasp of anyone willing to take responsibility for improving the quality of their life. Her well-received book, An Encyclopedia of Shamanism (Rosen), is an 800-page, two-volume set with over 750 in-depth entries that clearly discuss the basic concepts of shamanism, methods, and traditions of over 50 different shamanic peoples. Pratt is the founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing in Portland, OR, and New York, NY, creator of the original Foundations of Shamanism and Shamanic Healing course at the University of Minnesota, and a frequent and honored speaker for the American Holistic Medical Association.

"Why Shamanism Now? A Practical Path to Authenticity", a live internet talk radio with host Christina Pratt, airs Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Pacific time/2 p.m. Eastern time on http://www.co-creatornetwork.com/hosts/shamanism/host_bi .... Each week host Christina Pratt and guests explore the practical application of shamanic skills in our contemporary lives to create robust well-being, strong and clear community connections, and life enriching spiritual maturity. Listeners can ask questions by calling 512-772-1938 or via Skype. Prior episodes from "Why Shamanism Now" can be downloaded for free from the iTunes library (www.iTunes.com).  Pratt also talks about Shamanic Healing on YouTube (www.youtube.com).

For more information on Christina Pratt, the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing, and workshops and classes with Pratt, or to order An Encyclopedia of Shamanism at a special discounted rate, visit www.lastmaskcenter.org. Upcoming classes with Pratt include “Finding the Gift in Life Challenges” on August 19-20; Shamanic Journey Circles the third Tuesday of every month; Wisdom of the Shaman talks every third Friday; and Qigong classes every Wednesday, all in Portland, Oregon. The Hangout is set to host The Dirty Guv’nahs August 18, 2011

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 19, 2011 – THE HANGOUT SET TO HOST THE DIRTY GUV’NAHS AUGUST 18, 2011

The Summer of Rock n Beach Continues Into August With The Guvs

GULF SHORES (July 19, 2011) – The Hangout in Gulf Shores, AL is set to host the hot, boiling stew of gritty, soul-influenced rock ‘n’ roll, mixed with a hefty helping of roots, funk, blues and country to the Gulf Coast, also known as The Dirty Guv’nahs. The Guvs will perform on the main stage of the Hangout, on Thursday August 18th. This is a FREE show but a ticket will be required to attend. You can win these tickets from 92ZEW and The Hangout’s Website. Doors open at 5:00PM for this concert for all ages, with the Guvs taking the stage at 7:00PM. So come on down to “Where 59 Ends and the Fun Begins” and enjoy a relaxing night of music with The Hangout Crew!

Knoxville’s favorite sons, The Dirty Guv’nahs, voted Best Band—three years in a row—by the readers of that city’s alternative weekly, Metro Pulse, are poised to break nationally with the release, of their second CD, Youth Is In Our Blood.

Youth Is In Our Blood was produced by two-time Grammy-winner Justin Guip (Levon Helm, The Black Crowes) at Helm’s renowned barn/studio in Woodstock, NY. It follows the band’s self-titled 2009 debut, which drew accolades across the southeast: “…a passionate, jubilant slice of rock-meets-Americana,” proclaimed The Daily Times in Maryville, Tenn, while the Louisville Eccentric Observer described it as “Stones gone southern raucousness.” The Metro Pulse simply declared, “Rock the way God intended.”
On Youth Is In Our Blood, The Dirty Guv’nahs serve up a hot, roiling stew of gritty, soul-heavy rock ‘n’ roll, infused with hefty portions of funk, gospel, roots, blues and country. It’s all powered by a three-guitar onslaught, piano, Hammond organ, horns, a little fiddle, harp and pedal steel, and James Taylor Trimble’s soulful growl.
“Our main purpose is to encourage people toward community and not pursue a secluded life,” Guvs front man Trimble says of the music.

It’s a notion their growing legion of fans has clearly embraced, as the band’s rollicking live shows are practically a religious experience, as raucous as an old-time tent revival.
But it’s not just the energy the band exudes on stage that draws fans in. The deft songwriting, primarily a collaborative effort between guitarist Michael Jenkins and Trimble, who clearly have a knack for a good hook, is supported by the ensemble’s tight but free-form musicianship, derived from a wide swath of influences ranging from Elvis to Oasis, with nods to The Rolling Stones, The Band, James Brown, Prince, My Morning Jacket and Ryan Adams.

The disc kicks off with “Baby We Were Young,” a battle cry to the idealism and freedom of youth that sets the tone for what ensues. The first focus track is “We’ll Be The Light,” a joyous rock and roll ode to lasting love and the perfect balance to “The Country,” a lilting ballad about love lost, which features a hauntingly beautiful guest vocal by Jill Andrews (of the Everybodyfields). Other highlights include the cinematic “Wide Awake,” inspired by a George Orwell quote, and the roof-raising rockers “Walk With Me,” “It’s Dangerous” “New Salvation,” and “Blue Rose Stroll.” On more introspective tracks such as “Song For My Beloved,” and “Courage,” The Guvs show lyrical depth and a more vulnerable side.

The Dirty Guv’nahs, all grads of UT, Knoxville—they hold five master’s degrees and one BS in nuclear engineering between them—have built a strong following throughout the southeast and have appeared at a number of high-profile music festivals including Bonnaroo, CMJ, Wakarusa, Bele Chere in Asheville, NC and their hometown’s Sundown In The City. They’ve shared the stage with Blues Traveler, Robert Earl Keen, Drive By Truckers, Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Levon Helm 1916338565  Band and Zac Brown Band, and were invited to perform on the Southern Ground Cruise, hosted by the Zac Brown Band during the upcoming Labor Day holiday.
