FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Blue Rock SkyPRLog (Press Release) – Jul 19, 2011 – The exhibition “Destiny against Free Will” by Billy Keen explores the interaction between these two and questions the magnitude of their influence on the events of our lives.  Does destiny exists? We were born in a certain age, day, month, and year. We were raised by a certain family. We were born male or female in a certain country and place. How much do all these bindings influence our decisions and our free will? We have the capacity to decide and humans can change their predetermined destiny. But how free is our will after being born bound to so many things?

The Bound series by Billy Keen leaves the viewer with an enigma to solve. Using sculptural elements, a representational landscape, symbols, and the human figure, Keen exposes the bounds of humans to society, culture, education, experience, family, and even destiny. These elements are successfully woven to achieve a very interesting piece with something for every taste. His landscapes represent icons of freedom in our society, yet they bind the public to a particular place, time, perspective, and season. The sculptural elements attach the painting to the space and reality of the viewer. The abstract elements of the pieces represent freedom and subjectivity letting the mind of the observer wander freely in his thoughts.  This juxtaposition of contradictory elements that bind and free the viewer at the same time is carefully planned by the artist. Billy Keen’s paintings present a dialog between ideas of what it means to be human.

Billy L. Keen is an experienced conceptual artist from Schertz, TX. His style is abstract but he often uses realistic landscapes that contradict the non-representational nature of his piece. His paintings also present 1916338565  two-dimensional and sculptural elements that are remarkably well integrated. Keen’s paintings present layers of concept and an interesting composition of opposing features that inflict a non-stop dialogue in the viewer’s mind.
